Remote training Power BI: Core features 2

Version: Microsoft 365
Duration: 2 days
Price incompany training: € 2540 excl. VAT excl. / Terms for incompany training.

Description

You’ve followed the introductory course ‘Power BI: Core Features 1’, so you know that Power BI is a very powerful tool. You’re familiar with its basic features, but there are still some aspects you’d like to know more about. During this two-day training, we’ll walk you through the phases again, but we’ll start where we left off in Part 1. The queries are more complex, which allows us to optimise our model. The calculations in the model will be more complex as well and we’ll discuss additional features. We won’t focus on the ways in which you can create an attractive report, but on how you can prepare data in Power Query and on calculations via DAX.

Objectives

After this training, you’ll know how to:

  • Use query editor features that aren’t available through the interface
  • Write your own query functions
  • Use parameters in queries
  • Work with (bi)directional relationships in the model
  • Add measures and calculated columns to the model
  • Use custom visuals in Power BI reports
  • Share reports and dashboards with colleagues via Apps
  • Integrate Power BI into other Office applications
  • Set up data security, so that the end user can only see the data they’re allowed to see

Target Group

Everyone who knows the basics of Power BI and wants to learn more.

Prerequisites

You’ve followed the ‘Power BI: Core Features 1’ training.

Content

Part 1 Queries

  • Pros and cons of different connection types: import, direct connection, live connection
  • Define parameters
  • Query folding
  • Introduction to M, the Power Query language (defining constant values, generating lists, using features that aren’t accessible through the interface, referring to other steps or queries)
  • Generate a dynamic date table

Deel 2 Data Modeling

  • Relationships between tables (single versus cross-filtering, active versus non-active relationships)
  • Optimise Q&A with synonyms
  • Optimise a model (star diagram, snowflake diagram/vertipaq (xVelocity in-memory analytical engine))
  • Define hierarchies

Part 3 Calculations (DAX)

  • Context (tow context and filter context)
  • Functions (amount of functions depends on time and interest)
  • Variables in measures
  • What if-parameters

Part 4 Reports

  • Custom visuals

Part 5 Security

  • Row-level security (limit data in a file to what a specific viewer is allowed to see in a report)

EXTRA TOPICS

Part 1+ Queries

  • Import data with different regional settings
  • Write your own functions

Part 2+ Calculations (DAX)

  • Quick measures

Part 3+ Reports

  • Power BI-templates

Part 4+ Sharing

  • App work spaces
  • Create and update Apps

Part 5+ Power BI Service

  • Set up a personal/enterprise gateway
  • Quick insights

Part 6+ Office integration

  • Analyse datasets in Excel
  • Publish Excel data directly on dashboards
